All about Paul

Hi, I'm Paul and I have lived in Gloucester for 30 plus years. I’m the son of a Head Teacher who wanted me to be Hotel Manager....Oh dear!… At least I have put my people skills to good use!. Those that know me, know that where I go my Son Theo is never far behind....Start them young they say, don’t they?!?!. A future MD, Airline Pilot or Paramedic he tells me! this week anyway.

A little more about my journey...

I began driving for Lex Ford on their rental side at 18. Driving around in all the flash cars was like heaven!. After badgering people to death I started selling cars at 19 at Lex Ford in Gloucester. I got Lex "Rookie" of the Year award and remember winning 2000 pounds in vouchers in my First year...This was dreamland and I loved it! This was me for life, or so I thought!. This passion for cars was “fuelled” by being brought up around the motor trade through my Father's Family up In Liverpool. Most people associated Liverpool with football. I however associated with my Uncle’s Petrol Station and cars.

I have had many jobs from Sales to Finance to Management level within the Motor Trade and then onto working for myself. A Salesperson I worked with in my early days once said to me "You will hate this job in the end" I looked at him in disbelief. Now hate is a strong word but I really started to dislike all the non-sense and double standards, that happened in Dealerships. Having worked for some with the morals of a house brick really began to “p*ss” me off. I actually had a strong resentment of them shattering my illusion about something I loved so much!.

In my younger years I turned into a person I didn't particularly like as well looking back. Trying to fit in mainly!. I did have some great fun all the same though. Things are different at different stages of life!. My passion in later years dwindled. I loved wheeling and dealing but taking orders and being told to do things to hit “targets” started to grate on me. I'm not a yes man! I am my Fathers Son!. I felt like I was a fish in a goldfish bowl. I need that passion otherwise I am no good. I have to believe in what I am doing!. Something was missing! There is something that sits with me still to this day….A Managing Director that I once worked for once said to me “where is(name left out) …….today?”….To which I reply “she is off with some personal problems” to which he replied “We don’t do personal problems!”. Oh dear! I thought another person who doesn’t get life. Now I didn’t like him and he didn’t like me, but I thought he was an even bigger prick from then. I feel sorry for people like that now, but that was another signpost to evacuate and leave the trash behind. Flashy cars does not mean class people I worked that out long ago!. There was more to me than money!. I like looking after people and seeing people triumph. A foot note though I am not labelling everyone in the trade as that. There is good and bad everywhere. The environment is tough and people need to live. There is one common denominator though to my story……My gift of understanding different kinds of people from all different walks of life (Thank you Dad)That is what I love. People and their Journeys. I love backing the under dog in any situation.

My life as you may have guessed has taken quite a Spiritual path. I have a deeper understanding of life and how short it is. I know what you are thinking, a love for sales and a spiritual take don’t really marry up!.. You are right! I can’t help that it’s the way I am made! It’s the helping side that is great for my soul!. Having had some rough stages in my life gives me tremendous empathy with others. An empathy that has been crying out to be used.

My Son is the best thing that ever happened to me. As mentioned above I had made the leap into buying and selling myself so my work fitted around bringing Theo up. When my ex Wife Jo was on Maternity leave we needed a few more pounds to roll in so I went to work for Driver Hire in Gloucester. Neil and Billy I am for ever grateful for all you did for me. These guys were great to me. I was meant to meet them .It was only minimum wage but I remember one day at 6 am looking across at the Humber Bridge in Hull thinking, I'm only seeing this because of the opportunity with the driving. I felt free...It's a wonderful feeling...The cogs began to turn...Can you see the two worlds colliding? That is a little snapshot for you...The rest is history, as they say. A boring phrase but it’s true!!….

The Little White Van Man operates nationwide and takes the s out of the ‘S’ tress when moving.… and yes, I know that says ‘tress’! It’s catchy though! We love what we do and meeting you. It’s like getting paid to keep fit! That has got to be good, hasn't it?

Carhelpers helps people with all aspects of buying and selling, by removing commercial twaddle and jargon. I draw on my many years of sales experience to turn the table and put you in the driving seat.
